Early 17th Century French Provincial Louis XIII Period Armchair
A rare and distinguished example of early French Provincial craftsmanship, this Louis XIII period armchair was crafted in Southwest France around 1640. Made from richly patinated Circassian walnut, it features a tall, rectangular backrest and gracefully scrolled arms that descend in the classic Louis XIII silhouette. Intricately carved floral motifs adorn the legs, which are joined by boldly molded stretchers that add both structural integrity and decorative refinement. A sculptural and historically significant piece with exceptional presence.
Recently reupholstered in a textured peach fabric, the chair is accented with decorative trim and tassels along the seat and backrest, along with large brass nailhead studs framing the back. The resulting presentation is both regal and inviting, well-suited for a hall, study, or collector’s salon.
