Late 18th Century English Ash and Elm Windsor Armchair
An exceptional 18th-century English Windsor armchair crafted in the Midlands, circa 1790. This classic example features a hooped back with finely turned spindles, shaped arms supported by slender crinoline stretchers, and well-turned front legs. The single-plank seat is made of richly grained elm, while the remainder of the chair, including the hoop, spindles, and legs, is composed of native ash. The chair retains its original surface, featuring a deep, lustrous patination that has developed over centuries of use.
Strong, sculptural, and inviting, this piece epitomizes rural craftsmanship and timeless English country design. A beautiful addition to any traditional, rustic, or early colonial-inspired setting!
