A rare and characterful small-scale credenza from the Italian Renaissance period, handcrafted in Tuscany circa 1680. This early cabinet is constructed from Circassian walnut and features a deeply molded base and cornice, enriched with hand-carved decorative detailing throughout.
The upper frieze drawer is flanked by expressive carved heads- an exceptional sculptural feature- above two paneled doors, each incised with stylized classical motifs. Retaining hand-forged bronze escutcheon and round pulls, the piece opens to reveal a single shelved interior.
The surface is finished in a beautifully distressed green paint, now softened by time to reveal underlying tones and patina. Richly textured and architecturally bold, this piece exemplifies the refined rusticity and artisanal strength of 17th-century Tuscan joinery.
A soulful cabinet of sculptural presence and historic depth, ideal as a statement console, side cabinet, or collector’s accent!
